Dan Lieberman served as Director of Marketing at Ava Community Energy (Ava) for 7.5 years. Dan was employee #7 of an agency that grew from zero to 635,000 accounts and $1 billion in annual revenue during his tenure. Some of Dan's work is featured below.
Website
Dan led Ava’s website development and managed the site post-launch. During his tenure, Dan migrated site across Forestry, Sanity, and WordPress CRMs, led the revamp of the website when the agency rebranded (FKA East Bay Community Energy), and managed the ongoing evolution of Ava's web presence as the agency grew its portfolio of programs.
Customer Communications
As a regulated electricity provider, Ava was required to send information to all customers at least twice annually, in addition to ongoing brand-building and call-to-action comms. As a result, Dan sent about 2 million messages per year to customers, primarily by email, many of those mass-customized. The image above is one example of the annual Power Content Label (PCL) mailer, which served as a mini annual report and was sent to all customers. Of the 25 Community Choice Aggregators in California, Dan pioneered a mass-customized approach to the PCL, segmenting customer content by city and by which type of electricity service customers were on.
Marketing Collateral
As a public agency, Ava strives to engage with all customers in its jurisdiction. That meant preparing marketing collateral that was easy to understand by diverse audiences in multiple languages. In addition to brochures and one pagers, Dan developed explainer videos, branded swag, and segmented content such as a toolkit for businesses and a guide for seniors.
Social Media
Dan lead Ava's social media efforts during most of his tenure, including creating organic and paid content, scheduling posts on native tools and Hootsuite, coordinating with designers as needed, running ad campaigns, being the primary voice of Ava in online engagement, and as the agency grew, evolving to a team approach. Dan crafted Ava's voice as trusted, local, and accessible - often posting locally-recognizable visual content and engaging directly with commentors.
